What's the difference between “trading” and “investing”?

An initial hurdle of entering this space is often getting your head around the lingo. “Trader” and “investor” are often used interchangeably. However, sometimes there is a distinction between the two based on the time frame. “Trading” could be considered to be more short-term – buying and selling actively with the goal of regular profit taking and income generation. “Investing” could be referring to longer-term buy and hold strategies, with the goal of investing in a company over a multi-year period.

We believe that if you want to be a “trader” – buying and selling actively, taking short-term profits regularly, then you need to develop a specific skill set. Our courses were built around this concept, and aim to give you a practical and rules based approach to short-term trading.

How much experience do I need to start trading?

We would not suggest anyone to start trading without learning how to do so properly first. The reality is that if you want to generate consistent profits regularly, then you are entering a higher risk environment. If you are entering a high risk environment, it makes sense that you learn first, then practice, and then only after you feel comfortable, actually trade with real money.

Our four month Masterclass course is designed for both beginners, and those with some experience. You do not need to have any prior learning or experience with markets, as we start everyone at square one and develop from there.

What is the stock market and how does it work?

The Australian stock market, often referred to as the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), serves as the main market for trading equities, derivatives, and other financial instruments in Australia. The ASX operates as a marketplace where publicly listed companies, ranging from small to large corporations, issue shares (a.k.a equity or stock) to raise capital from investors. These shares are then traded among investors and traders, including institutional entities like banks, pension funds, and individual retail participants – most individuals fall into the latter. Beyond shares, the exchange also supports trading in options, warrants, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), catering to diverse investment strategies and risk appetites.

The market’s performance is influenced by various factors including economic indicators, corporate earnings reports, global market trends, government policies, and speculation from investors. As a barometer of economic health and investor sentiment, the Australian stock market serves as a vital indicator of broader economic conditions and investor confidence within the region.

How can I start trading?

In order to start trading you’ll need to have an open trading account which is linked to a cash management bank account. As full service equities and derivatives advisors we welcome you to open an account with TradersCircle and we’ll set you up with everything to get you going, including;

  • Open trading account
  • Linked bank account
  • Online charting and trading platform
  • Over the phone trading and support
  • Comprehensive end of year tax reports

What are the different types of trading strategies?

The amount of trading strategies available to traders is vast. If you know what you’re doing they can allow you to profit from literally any type of movement in order to fit your view (e.g. up, down, sideways, volatile). However their complexity is way too high to get across in a FAQ.

To get the basics of these strategies, check out our free eBooks which cover them in detail. For more comprehensive education on how to trade these strategies or even how to use them in tandem with a portfolio, check out our Masterclass.

Can the courses be used for crypto trading?

At TradersCircle we don’t offer cryptocurrency trading nor do we discuss it during our programs. However, many of our clients have told us that most of the underlying skills and principles we teach translate very well to other markets and instruments like crypto, forex, and commodities trading.

How much money do I need to start trading?

There is no set amount of money required to start trading. The decision you make on your trading bank size will likely take into account your own personal situation, like your financial situation, risk tolerance, and skill level.

TradersCircle only provides “general advice”, therefore we do not take into account your personal situation when giving you advice. If you do need personal advice on how to manage your finances, it may be best seeking the services of a financial planner or accountant.

During our courses we strongly promote paper trading (trading but without real money!), which after some time will give you a better idea as to what you may feel comfortable with as a starting trading bank size.

How much money can I expect to make after I have done your course?

Our courses are designed to teach you how to trade. This is distinctly different from other companies that will trade on your behalf. Operating under a general advice model, we cannot make trading decisions for you, and we also believe that the best trader for you, is actually you!

We can however teach you and support you in your learning and trading.

Our aim is to teach you the core foundations and put you in a safe and progressive learning environment. We want you to not only learn exactly what you need to know, but also to figure out what will work best for you.

Therefore, how much money you make after completing the course will largely come down to you! We can say confidently that if you are consistent in your approach, follow the education, practice, and are dedicated to your goals, you will have a far greater chance of being successful than otherwise.
